The Capaldi Hotel and Spa
The Capaldi Hotel & Spa is a luxurious retreat nestled within a 4-hectare olive farm at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Surrounded by fragrant gardens and ancient olive trees, this secluded oasis has two swimming pools (one of which is heated), a traditional spa, a private cinema, and a romantic lantern-lit roof terrace. But what sets The Capaldi apart is the warm hospitality of its hosts, Ed and Tara Lyle who, as global travelers themselves, understand the importance of exceptional service and offer the ultimate in luxury and relaxation.
The 24 rooms and suites are spread out in various buildings in the gar- dens. The minimalist style mixes grey and black accents with warm earth tones from brick, stone, tile and tadelakt finishes. This creates a sharp backdrop for shimmering red-silk pillows, sumptuous curtains, ham- mered brass light sconces and Moroccan lanterns that spin mesmerising shadows across the walls. Thanks to market finds such as lattice partitions, kilim rugs and low circular tables, no two rooms are alike. Luxury amenities include Egyptian linens, fresh flowers, robes, slippers and artisanal soaps.

The foothills of the Atlas Mountains provide a myriad of opportunities for hiking; a guide can be arranged or, if you want to go it alone, the hotel can provide a pre-programmed mobile phone in case you get lost. An easy 40-minute walk through local villages will take you to Lake Lalla Takerkoust which has a charming restaurant on its banks. Otherwise book a camel ride or take on the dunes with a quad-bike or dune-buggy over the sand and stones of the Agafay Desert. The desert landscape is rugged and remote, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
If you prefer something less energetic, head to the spa for a traditional Moroccan hammam, a relaxing argan-oil massage or a bath treatment using scented oils and rose petals.
Just 40 minutes away, Marrakech is really worth a visit both for its historical sights and extensive shopping possibilities. Visit the peaceful Majorelle Gardens and Yves Saint Laurent Museum before lunch in an elegant Riad with views over the Koutoubia mosque. After lunch, join a 2-hour guided tour of the souk or head to one of the many luxury boutiques. We can also organise a hands0-on cookery class in the Medina starting with a culinary journey through the city’s narrow, winding streets and alleyways, pointing out the most interesting sites, shops and restaurants. This will be followed by a fun Moroccan cookery class on the rooftop of a riad - fabulous and very much enjoyed by previous guests.
